This enzyme catalyses the reversible conversion of ATP to AMP, pyrophosphate and phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) [PUBMED:8610096]. Residues at the N terminus correspond to the transit peptide which is indispensable for the transport of the precursor protein into chloroplasts in plants [PUBMED:2841317]. This domain is present at the N terminus of some PEP-utilizing enzymes.

Structures

For those sequences which have a structure in the Protein DataBank, we use the mapping between UniProt, PDB and Pfam coordinate systems from the PDBe group, to allow us to map Pfam domains onto UniProt sequences and three-dimensional protein structures. The table below shows the structures on which the PPDK_N domain has been found. There are 11 instances of this domain found in the PDB.
